A Modern App for an Ancient Tradition

screen568x568A new tool from the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance is turning a millenia old practice into something accessible to everyone. JOFA’s Megillat Esther App (available for iOS and Android) is a one stop shop for learning the trope, practicing entire portions and reading Hebrew and English translations of the text.

Gone are the days of sitting with a cassette tape hitting play/pause/rewind in a desperate effort to learn how to chant the Megillah on your own. Click on any word, and the audio recording will begin playing from that spot. The app includes a special section for beginners to practice the trope, and those more experienced to get a refresher.

The app is part of a revolution of more people, men and women, young and old, owning their religious and cultural history by reading the megillah on Purim. This is the technology behind the cultural revolution taking place in the modern Orthodox community.

This week only the app is on sale for only $0.99 – that’s 50% off the normal price.
