National Council of Jewish Women Expresses Sadness at Tragic Shooting

September 17, 2012, Washington, DC – In response to yesterday’s tragic shooting in Washington, DC, National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) CEO Nancy K. Kaufman released the following statement on behalf of NCJW:

“We are saddened to learn of yet another mass shooting. The violence yesterday at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC, left 13 dead and many others wounded. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of those affected by this terrible act.

Each time such a senseless shooting occurs, we are reminded of the need for gun violence prevention laws. The unwillingness of Congress to act on common-sense gun legislation contributes to the proliferation of these tragedies. NCJW once again urges Congress, the President, and state lawmakers to act expeditiously to enact laws and implement policies that address gun violence.”

NCJW is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
